Abstract:
The ISU (Iowa State University) Shelterbelt Turbulence Model is a simulation of
aerodynamic flow field produced by an agricultural shelterbelt or windbreak.
It is used to determine the optimum shelterbelt design for creating specific
microclimate changes and determines surface flux characteristics for different
land-use characteristics under climate change scenarios.
Model input includes field measurements, windspeed profiles upwind of a
shelterbelt, and the porosity of the shelterbelt. The output is the vertical
and horizontal fields of wind speed and turbulence in the lee side of the
shelterbelt. The model runs on a one kilometer scale but can also be used for
a network of shelterbelts covering several kilometers.
